Stop Real Estate Agents from demanding personal information just to view a rental.

STOP REAL ESTATE AGENTS BREACHING PRIVACY

A large number of real estate agents have adopted the practice of requiring (demanding) detailed personal and financial information from potential tenants before the agent will allow the person to view a rental property.

This practice is unnecessary and not only a potential breach of privacy, can amount to a form of indirect discrimination and leads to the illegal collection of personal information.

The Queensland Government can prevent this unwarranted invasion of privacy by amending the Residential Tenancy Act and related legislation, prohibiting real estate agents from gathering personal and financial information from prospective tenants prior to permitting a property viewing.

We call on the Queensland Government to enact the required reforms to prevent agents from engaging in invasions of privacy and indirect discrimination.
