Petition updateStop RAF Scampton Being Turned into a Detention CampThe Home Secretary's plan for Scampton is going to cost £18.2mn MORE than the status quo

The Home Sec claims she's going ahead with RAF Scampton as an asylum site because it will be: appropriate, sustainable, and cost effective.

Absolute rubbish: It's almost certainly going to cost *at least £18.2mn* more than status quo for a year which is all the law allows:

The HS hopes to use emergency powers (called 'Q') to avoid planning permission (which it wouldn't get locally). Q is for 1 year ONLY.

Hotel rooms nearby are available for £35/night, so that's £25.5m for a year for 2,000 ppl even if they all have their own room...

Meanwhile Serco quoted a cool £32.8m to set up the smaller immigration centre at Linton (never done, money down the drain). That was for 1.5k people so assuming no complications Scampton will cost at least £43.7mn
Costing here: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/.../5/FOI%2070050.pdf.html

But Scampton is a very complicated site: asbestos, remote, not equipped for these numbers etc. That's why the investment plan for Scampton of £300mn is so big (all private £ and due to be lost with the HS's plan).
No surprise my FOI asking for the Govt assessment was rejected..

So:
-the govt plan will cost us all *at least* £18.23mn more than the status quo.
-is unsustainable: the law only allows for a year (and modular accom is usually temporary anyway)
-it'll be inappropriate without massive £ for people to live there , as the Govt will now know.

If you think this is a scandal:
-Sign the open letter to the Home Secretary here:

-Make sure you send a message with your vote on 4th May
-Write to your MP and ask them to abandon the Home Sec's cruel plan and let the investment deal go ahead
