As a filmmaker and content creator, I have had the privilege of working closely with people from Northeast India, and I have witnessed the harsh realities they endure daily. Despite their immense talent, kindness, and hard work, they are often labeled as "outsiders," ostracized because of their distinct facial features, and subjected to various forms of discrimination. These experiences are not just isolated incidents; they are a pervasive issue affecting countless individuals across India.

Our brothers and sisters from the Northeast deserve to feel safe, respected, and equal in every corner of our nation. Yet, many are denied housing, mocked in public spaces, and subjected to relentless racial slurs solely because of where they come from and how they look. This is unacceptable in a democratic country that prides itself on unity in diversity.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs in India, there has been a consistent increase in the number of racial discrimination cases reported by individuals from the Northeast living in different parts of the country. This growing trend is alarming and calls for urgent intervention by the government. Without strong legal frameworks to protect these vulnerable communities, incidents of racial discrimination will continue to rise unchecked, infringing upon the very fabric that holds us together as a nation.

I urge the Government of India to introduce a dedicated Anti-Racial Discrimination Law aimed at protecting individuals from all forms of racial bias and ensuring they can live with dignity and respect, regardless of their ethnic background. This law should include strict penalties for acts of racial discrimination, comprehensive awareness programs to educate the public on cultural sensitivity, and effective mechanisms to report and act upon discrimination instances quickly and efficiently.

We must remember that a country is only as strong as its weakest section. It is our collective responsibility to stand up against injustice and ensure it has no place in our society.
