Stop racial discrimination against Iranian UAE residents

Stop racial discrimination against Iranian UAE residents

The Issue

As Iranian passport holders who were legal residents of the United Arab Emirates through investment, employment, or skilled work, we have been unjustly affected by an abrupt policy change. On March 26th, without any prior notice or explanation, our valid residencies were revoked. Many of us, who were outside the UAE for very short trips, now find ourselves denied re-entry into the country we consider home. We have lost access to our residences, essential documents, and financial resources, leaving us in a critical state of uncertainty.

We have no connection to the policies of the Iranian government or any geopolitical conflict. In fact, many of us legally moved to the UAE to distance ourselves from political conditions in Iran and to build a safe, stable life. Some of us were even born in the UAE and have lived there for decades, truly considering it our only home. Throughout this time, we have respected the laws and values of the UAE and have never engaged in any unlawful or hostile behavior.

However, due to what appears to be discriminatory treatment based solely on our Iranian nationality, we have been deprived of our most basic right—the ability to return to our homes and families. This has caused severe disruption to our lives and has placed many of us in extremely vulnerable situations.

The scale of this crisis is severe and urgent.

A significant number of individuals and families have effectively been left without access to their homes and livelihoods overnight, placing them in a situation of sudden displacement and vulnerability. This underscores the critical and time-sensitive nature of this issue.

We call for transparency and accountability from the UAE authorities regarding this situation. While we understand that the UAE may need to review residency statuses for security reasons, and we respect that right, the lack of communication, the prolonged uncertainty, and the absence of any clear timeline have left us in a state of crisis.

We are now facing serious financial hardship, as we have no access to our income or resources, and many of us are struggling to survive abroad. In addition, some individuals are experiencing health issues due to lack of access to medical care and insurance. This situation is no longer sustainable.

We urge the UAE authorities to act with fairness and humanity by providing clear communication, restoring our legal rights, and allowing us to return to our homes and lives.

We are also calling on the international community, human rights organizations, and global leaders to support us in ensuring that no group is subjected to discrimination based on nationality. We seek justice, dignity, and the right to return home.

Each signature represents a real person affected by this crisis. By signing, we speak as individuals who have lost access to our homes and lives, asking the international community for support and urging the UAE authorities to allow us to return.
