Access to water is a basic human right, yet residents of Nelson Mandela Bay are hit with high water tariffs. These were justifiably levied during periods of severe drought, but now, our dams are full. According to statistics, as of June 2024, the major dams supplying water to Nelson Mandela Bay jointly hold nearly 80% of their capacity. Despite these improved conditions, punitive tariffs remain in place, which is an unnecessary burden on the community. We call on the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to review and reassess these punitive tariffs in light of the current dam levels. Act now to ensure fair water tariffs, sign this petition.
