The Issue

Every family deserves the dignity of choosing what’s right for their table. Right now, lawmakers are debating whether to ban soda and other items from SNAP (formerly known as food stamps). But instead of creating more restrictions, we should be expanding opportunities for health—not taking choices away.

Most people using SNAP already buy fruits, vegetables, dairy, and grains. What they need isn’t more judgment—it’s better access to fresh, affordable food. Programs like Double Up Food Bucks, which stretch SNAP dollars for produce, work. So do subsidies that make healthy food cheaper than junk.

Let’s stop pretending this is about personal failure. It's about poverty, food deserts, and corporations pushing sugar into communities with few options. Bans won't fix that—but real investment in nutrition can.

We’re calling on Congress and the USDA to fund healthy food incentives for SNAP recipients, and to respect their choice. Don’t punish them with restrictive bans.

Low-income families deserve better—support, not shame.
