Dear Supporters,

Thank you for signing and sharing our petition!

For more updates and ways to help, PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL TO SAVESTANHOPE@YAHOO.COM.

Below is an action that many have taken. Please take a few minutes to help us convince the town board to deny this proposal to demolish the historic stable and build 59 houses and a sewage plant over our drinking water aquifer:

WE MUST KEEP UP THE PRESSURE if we are to stop the proposed development! A review of the developer's own traffic study showed just how disastrous this development would be: over 100 more cars a day would travel along West Hills Road, all of them turning onto the road from places with very poor visibility.

Following is a sample letter along with contact information for the members of the Town Board, Town Supervisor, and Town Clerk.

Our power comes from in standing up in numbers! We need as many people as possible to send an individual email to each of the parties listed below. Please individualize the letter if you can, modifying it in any way that conveys your individual concerns. Please be firm but polite!

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Councilman [Name],

The purpose of this letter is register my strong opposition to the proposed rezoning and development of the property currently occupied by Stanhope Stables in the West Hills area of Huntington. This proposed change from the current R80 (2 acres per residence) to R5 (1/8 acre per residence) for the development of high density housing on this parcel would have a permanently devastating effect on the long established historical and equine character of the West Hills community. It would irrevocably disrupt the ecological stability of the area and threaten our aquifer. The significantly increased vehicular burden on the surrounding historical roads that cannot be widened would most certainly pose a heightened danger to local pedestrians, especially the children walking and biking to and from the adjacent Walt Whitman High School.

As a Huntington resident, voter, and taxpayer, I urge you to reject this opportunistic “spot zoning” effort and development proposal by voting to protect the historical and environmental roots that are the foundation of the Huntington community and consistent with the town’s Comprehensive Growth Plan.

Very truly yours,
