Stop Proposed Development at Stanhope Stables

The Issue

 

The proposed plan will allow ten times more housing than current zoning.

We, the undersigned VOTERS AND TAXPAYERS of West Hills, NY, the Whitman Historic District, Huntington and the surrounding communities hereby register our objection to the proposed zoning variance for the 18 acre property currently occupied by Stanhope Stables.

The current zoning of a minimum of two acres per residence zoned for horses protects our ground water and preserves the essential historical and equestrian character of our neighborhood.

The proposed plan to demolish the equestrian facility and build new housing includes a variance allowing 1/8 of an acre per residence. This will allow a project so extensive in scale that it will irrevocably and permanently alter the historic character and equine tradition of this community.

As residents, voters, and taxpayers we object to this zoning variance.
