The issue

The use of AI platforms has been restricted from classrooms since its introduction, but now schools are promoting its use. Corella AI is a government-owned Generative AI chatbot developed for Queensland state schools to assist teachers and students with tasks like lesson planning, content creation, and personalised learning. However, students have still not been educated on ethical AI use and what it truly is as a piece of technology. This creates issues in students ability to balance their time on AI and their ability to learn and create.  Furthermore, it is insulting towards the teachers who spent years of their life dedicating themselves to educating the next generation to be replaced by a machine. So, we, as an institution should stop promotion of everyday use of AI, when there has been no further progress in research or innovation on how it can be used effectively and ethically.
