Stop Project Baccara on the southern border of Surprise, AZ in Maricopa County
The Issue
We are among the thousands of residents living within a mile of the proposed Project Baccara data center and 700 MW power plant, with many families residing even closer than half a mile, and a few just a stone’s throw away. The proximity of this massive industrial project to our homes in the charming city of Surprise, AZ, is deeply concerning. We believe that this project will have significant negative impacts on the quality of life for our community, affecting property values, increasing emissions, heat, and noise, and altering our cherished views. This project does not belong anywhere near a residential area.
The proposed location near the northwest corner of W. Olive Ave and N. Litchfield Rd is dangerously close to our neighborhoods. The introduction of a data center and power plant will disrupt our community and environment by contributing to air and noise pollution. Data centers are known for using massive amounts of energy, which not only places a strain on our local power grid but contributes significantly to heat emissions—resulting in increased local temperatures. This heat, along with the construction and operation noise, threatens our peaceful residential environment.
Moreover, the demand for water to cool these data centers and power plant is also alarming. This project is estimated to use nearly 59 million gallons of water annually to cool the 18 power plant jet turbines. In an area where water is a precious resource, this consumption is unsustainable and could negatively affect our water availability. The potential drop in property values presents a financial threat to homeowners, many of whom have invested their life savings in these homes. Our community deserves better.
We urge the local government and planning authorities to reconsider the placement of Project Baccara. This industrial development should be moved to an area more suitable for such operations, far from residential neighborhoods where its impact will be minimized. We call upon our friends, neighbors, and concerned citizens to join us in protecting the integrity of Surprise, AZ and surrounding communities.
Stand with us and sign this petition to stop Project Baccara from endangering our community’s health, property values, and quality of life. Together, we can voice our collective concern and ensure that our neighborhood remains a haven for families and not an industrial zone. Please sign and share this petition widely within our community and beyond.
