Stop Premier Ford from cutting speed safety cameras in Ontario

Stop Premier Ford from cutting speed safety cameras in Ontario
The Issue
As a mother of a three-year-old, I am deeply alarmed about Premier Doug Ford's proposal to dismantle Ontario's life-saving speed safety camera program. My daughter and her friends, like kids anywhere in Ontario, are particularly vulnerable when walking on the streets of their city or town. The prospect of losing a crucial safety measure near schools fills me with fear.
Vehicle crashes remain the number one cause of injury-related death among children in Canada. In a busy city or town, where pedestrian safety is paramount, removing a key tool from our safety toolkit is a dangerous step backward.
Speed safety cameras have been proven to reduce speeding and decrease traffic fatalities. According to research done by Sick Kids, Toronto school zones with automated speed enforcement cameras have seen a 45% reduction in speeding. These cameras act as a deterrent to prevent reckless driving, thereby safeguarding our children as they play, learn, and grow.
Premier Ford's attempt to shut off this vital program endangers not just my child, but thousands of children across Ontario who rely on these measures for safer streets. It's crucial to invest in, and not detract from, tools that preserve the safety of our communities.
We are demanding Premier Ford reconsider and maintain Ontario's speed safety camera program. By doing so, he can affirm his commitment to the safety and well-being of our children and our communities.
Please sign this petition to send a message to Premier Ford that children's lives and community safety should never be compromised.
