Wow!! More than 6000 people have signed the petition asking the city to end the towing contract with Crow Tow. Thank you all for signing and please share the petition.

I know it has been awhile since I posted an update but rest assured, I will continue fighting until we see change.  Crow Tow holds the contract until Dec. 31, 2022 - and so I am trying to learn what would be needed for the city to cancel this contract before then. I’m not familiar with city government and so am hoping it can be done. If nothing else, I can’t see how the city could award the contract to them again after receiving this petition with all of the comments received of people who have been victimized by this company so my hopes are high that by Jan 2023 they will be out.

I read every comment that comes in and would like you all to know that if you are one of the people who has been a victim of theft of your belongings, damage to your vehicle, or illegal towing by Crow Tow; I strongly recommend you file police reports with the Des Moines Police Department. You have one year from the date that you became aware of the crime to file the police report so if your incident was less than 12 months, please, please file a report.

After you have filed a police report  then you can file small claims case against Crow Tow for reimbursement.  The Statute of Limitations to sue Crow Tow in Small Claims Court is 5 years so if it has been longer than 1 year but less than 5 since your incident occurred you could still take them to court under small claims without a police report but obviously a police report will definitely help in court so get one if you can. You do not need a lawyer to sue someone in small claims and the iowacourts.gov website walks you through the process step by step. For more information please go to: https://www.iowacourts.gov/for-the-public/representing-yourself/small-claims

All that is needed is a few forms and $95 filing fee. If the judge decides in your favor, you should be able to get that $95 back.
