The Issue

On August 28, 2025, a young Grab driver, Affan Kurniawan, lost his life after being run over by a police vehicle during a peaceful demonstration in Indonesia. He was not a criminal, not a threat—he was an ordinary citizen trying to earn a living. His death is a heartbreaking symbol of the growing brutality and lack of accountability within Indonesian security forces. For years, Indonesians have been demanding justice, democracy, and human rights. Instead, citizens are met with violence, intimidation, and suppression by police and military forces. This is not the Indonesia that reform promised after the fall of dictatorship. We call for: Independent Investigation – An impartial investigation into the killing of Affan Kurniawan, with full accountability for those responsible.
Justice for Victims of Police Brutality – Compensation and public acknowledgment of victims and their families.
Police and Military Reform – End the use of excessive force against civilians and ensure protection of peaceful protestors.
International Oversight – We urge the United Nations, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and international partners to pressure the Indonesian government to uphold democratic values and human rights. Affan's death must not be ignored. The world cannot stay silent as Indonesia’s democracy erodes and innocent lives are taken. Sign this petition to demand justice for Affan Kurniawan and to stand with the people of Indonesia against oppression. Together, we can call for accountability and prevent future tragedies.
