Stop Police Brutality against Students and Teachers in Bangladesh

Stop Police Brutality against Students and Teachers in Bangladesh
The Issue
In August of 2024, my friend, peacefully walking in the streets of Bangladesh, was fatally shot in the head by the police. This incident is not isolated, but rather emblematic of a systemic issue tormenting every corner of our country. Impunity among law enforcement authorities has led to horrifying consequences, including the killing of countless students, teachers and ordinary citizens.
Amnesty International reported in 2020 that Bangladesh witnessed a record number of extrajudicial killings, with 219 individuals, including civilians, losing their lives. Meanwhile, our government seems to turn a blind eye to this form of institutional violence, brutally curtailing our right to safety and justice.
In the face of such adversity, we do not lose our hope. We are not merely victims, but agents of change, capable of turning our personal tragedies into collective resilience. This is our call to action. We demand the Bangladesh government to urgently address this grave issue, hold all perpetrators accountable, and put an end to such rampant violations of human rights.
Our appeal is for the safeguarding of our students, our educators, our loved ones; our appeal is for the protection of the very soul of Bangladesh. Together, let's champion the cause of justice and send a clear message that such brutality will not be tolerated in our land any longer. Please sign this petition, and lend your voice to this urgent cause.
