Stop plans to build a hall at Connor Park in Halfmoon Bay - preserve forest habitat

The Issue

As long-time residents of Halfmoon Bay, we are very concerned about the prospect of the SCRD building a community hall in Connor Park. There was never any consultation or planning for a hall at Connor Park. The park is enjoyed by many for its natural setting and peaceful atmosphere. The addition of a hall would ruin the aspects of the park most beloved by the community.

Other negative impacts to consider: Residents who live in the surrounding area will be directly impacted by an increase in noise and traffic. Higher traffic volume and speed would be a safety concern for children who play and bike on this quiet residential cul de sac in a school zone.

Not just people will be affected: both during construction phase and after completion, the resulting noise and unusual activity would disturb and drive away wildlife from the area. The park is home to bears, elk, coyotes, deer, cougars, bobcats, owls, squirrels, bats and lizards. Birds would lose nests in the trees that would be destroyed to make space for a hall.

If the proposed hall is built it will mean a permanent change to the rural nature of the area by way of a significant destruction of forest habitat and an increase in noise and traffic in a school zone.

Before tax dollars are wasted on studies and plans to build a redundant hall next door to a Community School which already serves the same function, we need to say "NO GO!" to a hall in Connor Park.
