Stop Parley Incinerator

The Issue

A campaign for clean, non-toxic air in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

We are a group of concerned local people and seasoned environmental campaigners who have come together with the aim to stop the proposed incinerator in Parley. We believe it will be a disaster for the environment and for human health. There are also much better and healthier ways of dealing with waste, such as waste reduction and improved recycling.

The incinerator will release harmful chemicals including long-lasting pollutants. Although these levels will be significantly lower than for incinerators in years past, they remain at harmful levels. Among the pollutants released by the operation will be dioxins, which cause developmental, cognitive, hormonal, reproductive, and immune problems, as well as cancer. Dioxins have been found in chicken eggs, grass and moss up to 10km away from an incinerator. Heavy metals produced by incinerators have been found in the toenails of children living nearby.

Burning waste also contributes to climate breakdown - it is not a green or low carbon source of energy as its proponents claim.

The plume from the Parley incinerator won't just affect residents in the immediate area but will reach for miles. Chapel Gate, Bournemouth University's sports training facility and the main playing venue for the Univeristy's sports team is nearby, as are many local schools.

Please sign our petition and send a message to BCP council and Eco Sustainable Solutions that an incinerator is neither wanted or needed.
