STOP Parking Tariffs in Franschhoek
The Issue
Petition to Stop Parking Tariffs in Franschhoek
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who are deeply troubled by the recent notice for public comment regarding the intention to start parking management along the main road in Franschhoek. We strongly oppose the proposed parking tariffs and believe that they will have a detrimental effect on the local community and economy.
Franschhoek is a small town that depends heavily on tourism for its economic well-being. The proposed parking tariffs will deter tourists from visiting the town, and as a result, local businesses will suffer. In addition, residents who live in the town will be burdened with extra costs, as they will have to pay for parking every time they visit the town centre.
We also believe that the proposed parking management system is flawed. The system is based on a pay-and-display model, which is outdated and not user-friendly. The parking tariffs are also exorbitant and will put a strain on the budgets of local residents and visitors alike.
We, therefore, call on the Stellenbosch Municipality to reconsider its decision to implement the proposed parking management system in Franschhoek. We urge the Municipality to engage in a meaningful consultation process with the local community and stakeholders, to find a more equitable and sustainable solution that will benefit everyone.
We believe that a well-planned and well-executed parking management system could be a positive step for Franschhoek, but only if it is implemented in a way that is fair, reasonable and beneficial to all. We call on the Municipality to put the needs and interests of the local community first, and to work with us to find a solution that works for everyone.
