STOP PAID VERIFICATION ON FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM

The Issue

Meta announced a new program called "Meta Verified" where users will be able to pay $12 for a blue check mark. They claim it will help prevent impersonation and allow verified users to access customer support easier.

However, why put a paywall in front of the help users of these platforms should be entitled to? In terms of security, Meta is selling your data anyways. As for impersonations, when Twitter Blue launched  it led to a storm of accounts impersonating celebrities and companies leading to more issues with impersonation than before the feature was launched.

This feature is currently in testing, if we as a community create enough pushback, we will likely be able to make enough noise to prevent this program from being implemented.
