The Issue

Our local youth club within Charlton Athletic, a cherished pillar of our community, is facing closure. This is the only youth club in our area, and it holds immeasurable value for the children who depend on it for safety, engagement, and companionship. The closure of this vital resource would deprive our children of a safe haven, a place where they can remain active, socialize, and forge friendships.

At the heart of our community, this youth club is more than just a recreational facility. It plays a crucial role in supporting children with ADHD, those facing challenges at home, and those vulnerable to negative external influences. Our dedicated youth workers are mentors and guides, offering support to children who might not feel comfortable speaking to parents or guardians. The loss of the youth centre would remove a crucial support system for these children, leaving them without trusted adults to turn to in times of need.

Youth clubs like ours are proven to reduce antisocial behavior and foster a sense of community and belonging. According to recent studies, participation in youth club activities can lead to improved academic performance, better social skills, and increased confidence among young people. These benefits are particularly important given the pressures and anxieties facing today’s youth.

The closure is not just a loss of a building; it's the loss of a community asset that nurtures the next generation. We urge decision-makers to reconsider this decision and explore sustainable solutions to keep our youth centre operational. Public funding, community partnerships, and local support can be mobilized to ensure this critical resource remains available to our children.

We cannot allow the closure of our beloved youth centre to deprive our community's children of the opportunities and support they so desperately need. Let us come together to protect this vital resource for our youth.

Please sign this petition and help us save the youth centre that means so much to our community.
