The Issue

Vaping has effectively helped me to stop smoking which has improved my health. Since switching from traditional cigarettes to vaping, I've noticed a significant improvement in my health. My heart rate has normalized, where it used to be dangerously high even at rest when I used to smoke. I have far fewer chest infections, and my overall health and wellbeing have greatly improved. Besides health benefits, vaping has also been a huge relief on my finances, costing me much less than smoking ever did.

However, the impending Vaping Products Duty (VPD) set to be enforced from the 1st of October, 2026 threatens to undermine these advantages by dramatically increasing the price of vape juice and e-liquids. This increase in duty is not just another tax; it's an obstacle to health improvement and financial stability for many people like me who rely on vaping as an alternative means to quit smoking.

The UK's public health policy has long encouraged smokers to consider less harmful alternatives, and vaping has been pivotal in fulfilling that mission. Data from Public Health England suggests that vaping is 95% less harmful than smoking conventional cigarettes. The Royal College of Physicians also supports vaping as a proven tool for smoking cessation.

By imposing such a heavy duty, the government risks reversing the progress made in tobacco harm reduction. The increased cost might drive individuals back to traditional smoking due to financial pressure. We need to protect this public health success and ensure vaping remains an affordable and accessible option to those who need it.

Instead of imposing a heavy duty, we urge the government to consider reducing the proposed tax burden on vaping products or cancelling the taxation completely. By doing so, they can continue to support citizens in their journey to healthier lifestyles without the financial strain.

Join me in petitioning our government to either halt this excessive tax before it takes effect or drastically reduce the duty to prevent any negative outcomes on public health. Let's keep vaping an accessible and viable option! Please sign this petition to help protect our health and financial well-being especially for those who are already financially stretched to breaking point.

Whilst trying to stop or reduce the appeal to minors taking up vaping and a reason why the government intends to impose this huge tax I firmly believe that children being sold vaping products are trading standard issues just like alcohol or tobacco products shouldn't be sold to minors. Shops who sell vape products to minors should be penalised NOT everyone else.

The government openly admit this is also a way to gain more revenue and likely due to the loss in tax revenue they would have received if people were still smoking. Millions of people switching to vaping will inevitably lead to huge losses in revenue.

This vaping tax has no grounds for being implemented apart from cash grabbing. Surely any practice that leads to less people smoking which causes millions of disease related deaths as well as huge strain on the NHS should be encouraged not taxed to the point that it becomes more cost effective for users to revert back to smoking and consequently leading to poorer lifestyles, choices and an even bigger burden for the NHS.

The tax is unfair, unjustified and is unusually large. I'd argue that this needless tax will not benefit the UK but will in fact harm it.

STOP THE VPD.
