I am writing to you, as some months ago, you attended a Public meeting at Scotts Bay regarding a Development Proposal for a Quarry and rock crushing plant at Bournda. 1399 Sapphire Coast Drive.
So far we have: gathered close to 11,000 signatures on the change.org petition,
- we have all put in submissions objecting,
- put signs up on our fences and talked to people in the neighbourhood and on radio
and put articles into the local newspapers.
We need to KEEP GOING with ALL of these activities.
We have heard the whisper that The DA will most likely come before council for a decision in June.
Thats 4 weeks away.
Our legal advice has told us to focus on council”s staff report when it comes out (probably only the week before the meeting)
We need to pull it apart, find the errors and the questions that have Still Not been answered and put them to the Councillors.
If we ask questions that council can’t answer, then no decision will occur on that day.
There are 3 of us who have put our hands up to speak to council on that day.
We can have 5 minutes each.
We need to be articulate and on the points that will make the councillors think about the broad and long term consequences of their decision…
If you have a great brain and capacity to speak well under pressure , OR are able to help scrutinise the document when it becomes available, please be in touch with me, skye asap.
We will only get one chance at stopping this inappropriate and illegal proposal.
<<< THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO PLEASE DO:
at least 1 OF THE FOLLOWING BETWEEN NOW AND THE MEETING >>>
** Put up posters or signs on your fence, on noticeboards, saying NO QUARRY @BOURNDA
and Talk to everyone about it.
** Write to the local paper.
** Ring up local radio
* 1. If you have a connection with any of the councillors, please email Or speak to them about your concerns about the proposed Quarry .
Some of the Matters for Concern you could mention in your communication with councillors :
Whether it be about the 30 + trucks a day pulling out onto Sapphire Coast Drive, and passing through Kalaru, or chugging up Monks hill, through Tura and Merimbula.
* 2. The silica dust exposure from rock crushing Rhyolite on site. (Worse than Asbestos health effects.)
* 3. The noise of a rock crusher , blasting and operations proposed 6 days / week
* 4. The impact on Listed Vulnerable and Endangered Species such as the Glossy Black Cockatoos, ( who successfully bred last year )
* 5. Impact on the known Yellow Bellied Gliders, who reside near the Quarry site, and other wildlife that
move from the adjacent Bournda Nature Reserve through this recognised biodiversity corridor to
the coastal national parks to the east and north.
* 6. The impact on your rural lifestyle living in E3 zone, and the value of your property.
* 7. The impact on the local Tourism industry that relies on the amenity of our pristine natural ecosystems.
*8. The impact on our roads of these heavy trucks .
*9 The change in the local amenity of the area. From rural ifestyle living to an Industrial zone.
Keep your eyes open for the Agenda on Councils website &
*** COME TO THE COUNCIL MEETING WHEN IT IS ON ***
Sincerely
Skye Etherington
