Stop online harassment in Vietnamese diaspora

The Issue

I'm reaching out today with a heavy heart, compelled by the ongoing harassment faced by South Vietnamese refugees—a community close to my heart—on various social media platforms. There is an individual who relentlessly bombards our community with demeaning words and actions, adding salt to wounds that many of us have carried for decades. This pattern of behavior is not just hurtful but deeply disturbing and undermines the experiences of countless people who suffered under communist rule following the fall of Saigon.

The pain of involuntary exile and the loss of a homeland is a shared trauma amongst us. These refugees and their families have built new lives in different parts of the world, often facing monumental challenges along the way. Yet, we now face another battle—ensuring that our stories, our dignity, and our very identities are respected and protected online.

This harassment does not only affect individuals but tears at the fabric of communal solidarity and support. It perpetuates stereotypes, revives old wounds, and attempts to erase a history that is integral to who we are. This behavior is unacceptable and must be stopped.

We're calling upon social media platforms to take a proactive stance against this kind of harassment. They must enforce stricter policies and surveillance to protect vulnerable communities from targeted harassment. By implementing advanced monitoring systems and encouraging users to report such abusive behavior, they can create a safer environment where all voices can be heard without fear of retribution.

Furthermore, individuals who engage in such harmful behaviors should be held accountable through community standards that include warnings, suspensions, and, if necessary, permanent bans from the platform.

This is not just about online harassment; it's about acknowledgment, respect, and justice for those who have endured unimaginable hardships. By signing this petition, you stand with us—proclaiming that hatred has no place in our digital world and that we will fight for the respect that every human being deserves.

Please, join us in this critical cause. Sign this petition and help end the abuse against South Vietnamese refugees, ensuring a more inclusive and protective online space for everyone.
