Stop Ofsted Extending School Term

The Issue

From a personal experience this is not a positive plan. Across the board I've seen worried and concerned parents expressing their views that if Ofsted were to extend school terms, it would impact their child's mental health and wellbeing, it could also cause burn out. This would result in children missing their family, reduce concentration and cause mental health issues and tiredness.

My child is 4 and a half, she showed signs of mental intuition and artistic skill quite early on. I made the decision to apply her to a good school close to our village.

She is doing well, however, there seems to be lack of emotional support when she feels sad, misses me, or needs comforting. I have had to reach our externally to ask for the emotional help, they have asked the school to approach this as advised.

I feel an extended term is not a positive way forward for children, especially for their emotional well-being.

In other countries they do a four day week, both working and school. This has proven to enhance children and employees work capability, mental health and wellbeing.

We can not allow this to go ahead. We seem to be going back to the dark ages where families work until they drop (especially single parents), and Children made to focus and concentrate than what's best for their endurance and capacity.

We are talking about small children who need an equal balance.

There is not enough room for childcare; despite Government support with reduced fees, the placements are completely full. Childminders are underpaid and also reached capacity.

I've worked in nurseries and schools and I can catagorically say children require and need an equal balance, and time spent with their families. Already many single parents are being made to put their children in long hours of child care with people who ultimately are not their family, resulting in less time spent with their families and causing exhaustion.

Please support this, as it's a hugely disastrous idea to extend terms.
