The Issue

This petition is for residents of Pelenna and the wider affected areas of Neath, Port Talbot and beyond, who have major concerns about the proposed Mynydd Fforch Dwm wind farm development in Tonmawr and the use of NPTCBC roads during construction and after.

There will be approx 40,000 extra journeys/movements to the site over a 12-month period, with many of these being abnormal loads and HGV vehicles. We feel that the use of NPTCBC roads for this development will cause major damage and safety concerns including:

  • damage to already weak roads that will not stand up to the increase in the volume of traffic
  • damage to biodiversity in particular with road widening
  • removal of peat from the area
  • health and safety of residents along the route through Neath, Cimla and into Pontrhydyfen
  • Tonmawr will effectively be cut off for long periods of time during the delivery of the components - including access for emergency vehicles.
  • the removal of peat and changing of the water flows from the mountain will cause flooding and other issues within the Tonmawr area

Wind farms can be a valuable tool in our fight against climate change but the damage to the area and potential risk to life that this will cause make this a wholly unsuitable venture.

This is the time for us to have a voice - the relevant board members within NPTCBC will be meeting over the next few weeks to discuss and then vote on whether or not to allow Naturalis to use their roads and our voices can impact this choice.
