Subject: Formal Objection to the Removal/Relocation of the St Peters Street Motorcycle Park

Dear Councillor Harper,

I am writing to you today as a regular user of the city centre motorcycle park located off St Peters Street. I wish to formally record my strong objection to any plans involving the removal or relocation of this facility as part of the wider market redevelopment scheme.

This motorcycle park has been a successfully functional part of Norwich’s infrastructure for 90 years. It is more than just a parking area; it is a "well-used social hub" (Eastern Daily Press) and a vital resource for commuters and visitors who contribute to the local economy.

I would like to bring the following points to your attention:

Significant Public Opposition: Beyond the primary petition on Change.org which currently has 683 signatures, I believe there are at least two other petitions created by equally concerned citizens.

Diverse Community Support: It is important to note that these signatures do not only come from the biking community. We have received overwhelming support from residents of all ages who appreciate our friendly presence in the city. Many non-riders value the character we add to the area and the lack of antisocial behaviour associated with this long-standing group.

Flawed Consultation Process: While 691 people responded to the council’s survey, no proactive effort was made to reach the primary stakeholders—the year-round users of the park. While the council typically uses laminated notices on the barriers to communicate temporary closures, no such notices were used to alert us to a consultation that could result in the park's permanent loss.

Existing Alternatives for Seating: The proposed replacement—a covered seating area—could be more effectively addressed by redesigning the significantly underutilised seating area already present in front of City Hall.

I urge you to acknowledge that this is a valued community asset supported by a broad spectrum of Norwich's population. I request that the council halts plans to "re-purpose" this site and instead engages in a more transparent and inclusive consultation.

I look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely,

I shall also send a press release to the EDP and Evening news.

The next Cabinet meeting for Norwich City Council where major projects like the market redevelopment are typically discussed is scheduled for:
Date: Wednesday, 11 March 2026
Time: 5:30 PM
Location: Mancroft Room, City Hall, St Peter's Street

One of the reasons for wanting tor relocate the bike park is the disturbance complaints from the food restaurants nearby form kids on their rev limiters.

I for one will make my personal views extremely clear on this topic in the faces of the kids who are only fueling reasons to get us moved.  Please feel free to exert your feeling too, to them.

Thanks in advance for your continued support.

I have tried to keep this brief :-)
