Stop North Carolina from Murdering Women with House Bill 1232

Stop North Carolina from Murdering Women with House Bill 1232
The Issue
House Bill 1232 proclaims “human life begins at fertilization.” With abortion bans sweeping the nation, Republican Representatives Keith Kidwell and Ben Moss are trying to make it legal for people to kill women/people who seek an abortion as “self-defense” of a fetus. The proposed bill states “Any person who willfully seeks to destroy the lid of another person, by any means, at any stage of life, or succeeds in doing so, shall be held accountable for attempted murder, or first degree murder respectively” and that “any person has the right to defend his or her own life, or the life of another person, even by the use of deadly force if necessary, from willful destruction by another person.” The issues with this law are 1. This law states that you can kill someone carrying a fetus who is seeking an abortion, this is murder. 2. Homicide and suicide are the leading cause of death in pregnant people currently, this bill will increase these rates as people will use this bill to create reasoning as to why they murdered a pregnant person even if that person is not seeking an abortion. 3. By killing a pregnant person, unless the fetus is past the point of viability (24 weeks), if the fetus’ mother/carrying parent dies, the fetus is very likely to die as well making this bill entirely counterintuitive. 4. Stricter laws leading to abortion denials tend to cause medical specialists to flee the state which creates medical deserts for pregnant people which leads to an increase in medical complications associated with pregnancy including death.
Tell Representatives Kidwell and Moss that North Carolinians do NOT want this bill and that you support an individual’s right to seek reproductive care in anyway they and their medical providers deem necessary to ensure their quality of life.
Call Representative Kidwell at +1 (252) 495-0621 and Representative Moss at (919) 733-5903 and contact any other representatives to tell them to do NOT support this bill using some of the talking points listed above AND SIGN THE PETITION TODAY!
