We urge you to oppose Amendment No. 2, Fact sheet 12 - Business Entertainment Activities to the Noosa Plan 2020, which is:

•  “It is proposed to amend AO11.2 to permit Food and drink outlets within the Noosa Junction Hospitality Precinct to operate to 12 midnight 7 days per week.”                                                                       
• “It is proposed to amend the provisions in the Business Activities Code and Entertainment Activities code to incorporate new performance outcomes and acceptable outcomes for both acoustic and amplified music (whether live or recorded).”

We oppose the above amendments,

1. because they are unrelated to the core of “Amendment No. 2”, which “seeks to support housing supply, housing choice, housing diversity and affordability”. They are counterproductive to this purpose. The unintended consequences of venues operating 7 days per week until midnight so close to residents will be negative to residential wellbeing.                                                                                                  
2. as no impact assessments were done. Unintended outcomes, like noise pollution & nuisance from increased traffic, venues & patrons every day to late at night, plus the various security / crime issues (alcohol & drug related) will impact the wellbeing & safety of current and future residents.                                                                                 
3. as direct Community Consultation was not undertaken for this part of the overall Amendment No. 2. Affected residents are not aware that this is part and parcel of the overall “Amendment No. 2”, therefore may not have submitted an objection.                                                     
4. because there is a complete lack of clarity on “provisions for music & entertainment”, leading to the risk that the extensive Noise Nuisance already being experienced by residents, several days every week from live and recorded music exceeding allowable maximum noise levels & times, will become unbearable.

We petition Council to remedy the above points or alternatively remove “Fact Sheet # 12 amendments” from the overall Amendment No. 2.

A separate amendment for this matter, following a collaborative approach involving all stakeholders, could be an option to be considered at a later stage.

Noosa Junction is not an appropriate location for a late night “Roudy Nightlife Hub”.

This is not just for us, but for the future generations who will call Noosa home.
