Every day on our roads, I witness a heartbreaking reality - the needless deaths of both police officers and motorists during what should be routine traffic stops. As a professional driver who spends countless hours on the road, these incidents strike deeply personal chords for me.

The routine traffic stop has become unexpectedly dangerous. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, hundreds of fatalities occur annually from roadside incidents, both for officers and civilians. These numbers are not just statistics; they represent fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters who are lost to their families forever.

Understanding that there are alternatives,  Safe havens, like parking lots, text stop areas (like in NY) rest areas, weigh Stations and barrier protected pull offs, welcome centers, truck stops, etc that would allow the officers and motorists to conduct their interactions at a safer location. The side of the road is far too dangerous anymore to conduct  stops safely. The alternative is get it off the road. One life lost is one too many,

Implementation of these solutions not only protects lives by reducing the risk of deaths during traffic stops but also builds a safety net for law enforcement and the community. Communities working together with law enforcement agencies to create policies for safer interactions can lead to real change. Let's demand these changes for a safer tomorrow.
