Stop Name Searches For Safety and Anonymity of Private Investigators In Ontario

The Issue

As private investigators working across Ontario, we are often tasked with handling sensitive information and complex cases. Despite our crucial role in the justice system, we find ourselves operating under capacity and facing numerous safety and anonymity challenges. In recent months the ministry has implemented name searches in their database for Private Investigators in Ontario.

Why is this important?

Private investigators play a significant role as undercover operatives, corporate due diligence work, insurance fraud detection among other areas. However, our work often puts us at risk of retaliation from those we investigate. The lack of adequate protection measures compromises our ability to carry out our duties effectively.

In 2019 alone, there were over 2,000 licensed private investigators in Ontario (source: Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services). Each one of these professionals deserves to work under conditions that prioritize their safety and protect their identity when necessary.

The CPIO is urging the provincial government to implement stronger regulations ensuring the safety and anonymity for private investigators across Ontario. We need your support to make this change possible - sign this petition today!
