Stop Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining

Stop Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining
The Issue
It’s time to permanently ban mountaintop removal coal mining in the United States.
Mountaintop removal is as bad as it sounds. Every week coal companies use more explosive power than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima to blow up entire mountains and extract coal.
The rubble and debris is then dumped into river valleys below polluting rivers, streams and public drinking water with lead, arsenic, mercury and other toxins. Already more than 1,000 miles of rivers and streams have been buried by toxic mountaintop removal debris.
A major new study has further concluded that the health and environmental impacts of mountaintop removal are irreversible and that the only way to stop the harm caused by this brutal practice is to ban mountaintop removal entirely.
The EPA and the Army Corp of Engineers have the power to stop issuing permits for mountaintop removal but they won’t act unless they hear from you.
Send a letter to both agencies today and tell them that you want to protect America’s mountains, wildlife, water, and communities from being ravaged and destroyed by mountaintop removal coal mining.
