Stop Milton from constructing paths on rural corridors

Stop Milton from constructing paths on rural corridors
The Issue
Once our rural landscape is destroyed, it can never be reclaimed.
The city of Milton has embarked on a project to develop shared-use paths along our rural corridors including Freemanville, Hopewell, and Redd roads. This plan threatens not just the beauty of our community but also the essence of the rural charm that defines Milton.
Shared-use paths are not only visually intrusive as they require clearing trees and grass, but are in direct opposition to the commitment made throughout the 2040 Comprehensive Plan to preserve our rural viewshed. In addition, they pave the way for personal transportation vehicles like golf carts being allowed to utilize these pathways that will forever alter Milton's rural character.
The city introduced this project under the heading, "Safety in Action," when anyone who has traveled along Freemanville, Hopewell, and Redd roads knows cars travel too fast for any width of sidewalk to be considered "safe."
As a farm owner along Hopewell where the proposed 10-foot shared-use path will come within arms length of my front pasture--and our horses--I vehemently oppose this project.
It is crucial to take immediate action to protect our rural corridors. Please join us in standing up for Milton's rural landscape and sign this petition to stop the construction of shared-use paths.
After you sign, please consider attending the next city council meeting (Milton calendar) or calling and/or emailing our city council and urging them to reconsider the current plans and preserve the rural landscape of Milton.
