The Issue
- Every day, I connect with my closest friends, who live across the globe through Messenger. With life’s demands and distance separating us, Messenger has become the most essential part of maintaining my most valued relationships. However, Meta plans to close the web-based form of Messenger as of April 14th, a decision that would greatly impact the way I connect with my friends.
- Unlike Facebook (where Meta wants us to keep communications), messenger.com offers a streamlined, uncluttered space that perfectly suits my daily routine and professional workflow. I understand the Messenger app will still exist, and only the website form is being shut down, but as someone who often works at their desk, having Messenger open in a browser tab allows me to seamlessly balance work and communication without constantly switching devices or succumbing to the distractions that often plague social media platforms like Facebook.
- There are many reasons why messenger.com needs to remain operational. Not everyone can (or wishes to) use the mobile app due to storage limitations or personal preferences.
- Messenger.com provides a faster, more lightweight option to stay in touch with loved ones from all corners of the world. This Web-based service has become a sanctuary for those of us who prioritize simplicity and efficiency in our digital interactions.
- It’s crucial to recognize the necessity of offering multiple communication channels to cater to diverse user needs. A significant portion of Messenger users like me requires the flexibility of using a web-based format that's readily accessible from any computer.
- Meta claims to pride itself on fostering community and keeping people connected, and discontinuing messenger.com contradicts its supposed mission. By signing this petition, you are supporting billions of users who rely on the convenience and unique features of the Messenger web platform.
- I urge Meta and its decision-makers to reconsider this plot and preserve messenger.com to ensure that our digital communications remain uninterrupted and versatile. Please sign this petition and help us keep our world a little more open and connected.
