Stop merge the school, save historic Baden Powell Primary School.
The Issue
I am a mother with two children. My older son is attending the Baden Powell Primary school in Hackney already, and is in year two. This coming September my daughter will start nursery in the same school.
One week ago myself and other parents who have children who attend Baden Powell Primary school, received the terrible and shocking news that the local authorities intend to merge our lovely, close knit, beautifully functioning school with a much larger, less successful school across the road.
This means that a well established school with supremely dedicated , friendly staff will be effectively closed.
All the talent and care invested in our children, lost.
The standard of care and education at Baden Powell Primary school exceptional.
We believe the local authority has a duty of care to us and our children; a moral responsibility to maintain all that is good in our community for families who quite often do not have that security in their lives.
As parents we are given regular updates on our children's progress; the curriculum is wide enough to allow for music lessons (they already have incredible violinists and pianists) chess and numerous other activities that make this school a beacon of light in Hackney. The facilities are unlike any other in this neighbourhood, not only with instant access to green space but also a magnificent teacher/child ratio.
This move would not only fracture the security of the children, parents and teachers alike by being moved, it would also cause great anxiety by forcing a much less intimate, excessively populated learning environment upon our children, with the loss of friendships and the stress that incurs.
Why change the perfect model of a school where every parent is happy with the teaching, the environment and the healthy attitude and outlook this encourages in our children; a school that every child is excited to attend.
Why, by doing so , would an authority be prepared to cause irreparable damage to a thriving community and its young ?
Why jeopardise the formative years of our children's learning experience by destabilising and shattering the positive structure that exists so far?
Please, for the future of our children, do not allow this school to close down - for all our sakes, do not allow this school to close
