Stop Mega-Corporations' grasp on Indian Democracy

The Issue

THANK YOU to all supporters! Mr. Rahul Gandhi has been reinstated to Parliament on August 7th, 2023; however, the lawsuit is still pending. We need your continued support.

Objective: We respectfully petition Ms. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, to intervene on the unfair judgment against Mr. Rahul Gandhi in the defamation case. We request Ms. Murmu to exercise her presidential powers to reinstate Mr. Gandhi to his elected post in parliament. Ms. Murmu’s fair mediation in this matter is urgently needed to keep Indian political integrity and Indian courts clean, fair, and free from selfish (and inhumane) influence from mega-corporations and foreign powers.

Cause: Save Indian Democracy and Indian courts from being hijacked by Mega Corporations (such as by Adani, Ambani, others Indian corporations and foreign corporations). Allow free Democratic process. Stop the unfair sentence of Mr. Rahul Gandhi.

Background: Mr. Rahul Gandhi was unfairly sentenced in a trumped-up defamation case which resulted in his two-years jail sentence, and his disqualification as a member of the parliament – a post he was lawfully elected by his constituency. Mr. Rahul Gandhi is a member of the opposition party who spoke against Business corporation’s detrimental interference in the Indian Political process and in decisions about Indian Defense Department.

Additionally, the unfair and harsh judgement of Mr. Rahul Gandhi has drawn international attention which put a negative light on Indian governance. Since Mr. Gandhi has himself been mercilessly abused and repeatedly defamed over many years by his political opponents: consequently, in the eyes of the foreign officials there is little sympathy for the opponent, Mr. Purnesh Modi, the plaintiff who filed the case. The defamation case against Mr. Gandhi seems to be an insufficient reason for such a disproportionate punishment. It indicates malice.

This issue has become a potential weapon for other countries to use against India in foreign negotiations in diverse areas such as commerce, defense, and may even affect India’s participation in treaties and alliances with other countries.  Foreign countries must not be given the opportunity to hold cases of Indian miscarriage of justice, like the case of Mr. Rahul Gandhi, as a weapon to undermine and control India.

Solution: That is why Mr. Gandhi’s defamation case must be re-examined, taken in its proper perspective, and resolved internally in India with the help of the President of India’s involvement. Mr. Gandhi must be immediately reinstated to his parliament post to allow fair Indian Democratic process to take place.

This request is aside and beyond any political party’s interest. This request is based on India’s well-fare and Indian Democratic principles. The world is close-connected these days. What happens in India will quickly affect people of other countries as well.

We also appeal to petitioners to help our universal cause of reaffirming democratic values in India and all around the world!

Respectfully

Anuradha Rampal
