STOP MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE AND SAVE LIVES

STOP MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE AND SAVE LIVES
The Issue
Dear Resilient Community, I trust this message finds you with a heavy heart as we gather to address a profound injustice. We, Co-ordination committee of Justice for Saandra Campaign pen this petition in the wake of the untimely passing of Saandra Salim, a vibrant soul in our midst, whose life was cut short due to suspected medical negligence at Grand River Hospital. Saandra, a spirited 25-year-old international student brimming with dreams, sought medical help at Grand River Hospital in November 2022 for severe abdominal pain. Subsequent surgery on November 22, 2022, unveiled a pelvic mass, but the nature of the tumor remained unknown upon discharge. Promises of communication on pathology reports went unfulfilled, despite Saandra's persistent attempts to seek answers. In June 2023, Saandra returned to the hospital with lower back pain, the duty doctor prescribed Tylenol, with no follow-up, overlooking her documented surgical history. In July 2023, her return, prompted by the inability to stand on both legs, uncovered a devastating condition. And in August — a widely metastatic gynecologic tumor affected her liver, spine, and uterus. Shockingly, she was verbally informed that she had three months left. In a testament to her unwavering spirit, Saandra fought the illness for a month in Canada before seeking medical care in Kerala, India. Tragically, on 11 Jan 2024, Saandra, the vibrant dancer with an exceptionally positive attitude towards life, succumbed to cancer. Her story serves as a poignant reminder of the dire consequences of medical negligence. This incident demands a thorough investigation into the medical care Saandra received at Grand River Hospital. Our community mourns the loss of a vibrant soul, and we refuse to accept such negligence in the future. As a community profoundly impacted by this tragedy, we must stand united and advocate for justice. This situation sheds light on the vulnerability of international students in navigating healthcare, emphasizing the need for systemic changes. Lack of timely access to essential medical information poses serious risks to their well-being. We implore the responsible parties to consider the unique healthcare needs of international students. Addressing barriers to obtaining medical records, promoting awareness of available resources, and enhancing communication channels are imperative. We call upon each compassionate individual to join our cause. By signing this petition, you stand up for Saandra Salim and countless others who have suffered due to healthcare system limitations. Your signature symbolizes hope, a call for justice, and a catalyst for change. Let our collective voice be heard. Sign now and help reshape the healthcare system.
