The Issue

In Gulf County, Florida, we are faced with an alarming invasion of our privacy: the installation of Flock and similar mass surveillance cameras. As citizens who value our rights, we must take action against this intrusion that threatens our constitutional liberties and personal privacy.

The use of surveillance cameras by government or private entities without our consent is a clear violation of our right to a reasonable expectation of privacy. The government has overreached for too long, eroding our freedoms under the guise of security. We are here to proclaim that we are not intimidated, nor will we tolerate being treated like animals in a zoo. Our community deserves to live without the constant scrutiny of big brother looming over us.

These surveillance systems are not just invasive; they are ineffective and unnecessary in combating crime. In fact, studies have shown that the presence of surveillance cameras does not significantly deter crime rates. Instead, it creates a culture of fear and submission. We must protect our community from becoming a dystopian society under surveillance.

Flock cameras automatically capture the license plates of every vehicle that passes, storing this data without definitive boundaries on usage or deletion timelines. Such mass data collection is vulnerable to misuse, including breaches and unauthorized access by entities other than law enforcement. Imagine your private movements tracked indefinitely or falling into the wrong hands—this is not the future we envisioned for Gulf County.

It is time for Gulf County officials to listen to their constituents. We demand that they take down the current cameras, cancel any contracts associated with these devices, and cease any plans for future surveillance agreements. Instead, let us focus on community-building initiatives and solutions that enhance public safety without compromising individual freedoms and rights.

Join us in our peaceful revolt. Our voices united can make a difference, ensuring that Gulf County remains a place where freedom and privacy are cherished and protected. Sign this petition to send a clear and powerful message to our local government that enough is enough. We refuse to surrender our privacy rights and will not fade quietly into complacency. Stand with us and take action today for the sake of our community and its future.

This petition is for Gulf County citizens only!
