I am an owner of an electric mountain bike, and like many others, I believe in the freedom to modify and use the product that I have purchased as I see fit. However, this freedom is being threatened by electric bicycle manufacturers who are deploying software or firmware to privately-owned e-bikes, disabling them or putting them into limp mode without the owner’s consent. This forces us to return our bikes back to their place of purchase and pay additional fees just to restore them back into working order.

This practice is not only unacceptable but also infringes on our rights as consumers. When we purchase a product, it becomes ours - we should be able to decide what we do with it without interference from manufacturers.

In 2020 alone, over 130 million e-bikes were sold worldwide (source: Statista). Imagine how many owners could potentially be affected by this issue if it continues unchecked. We need your support in calling for a stop to these unethical practices.
