The Issue

The inside of my truck is my second home. It's where I start my day and where I end each journey. It's a space of solitude in this demanding line of work. Trucking isn't just a job—it's a deeply rooted lifestyle for me and thousands of drivers across the nation. We face long hours, challenging routes, and often, solitude on the open road. But now, our very private spaces are being intruded upon by mandatory inward-facing cameras.

Insurance companies and trucking corporations argue these cameras are necessary for safety and accountability. While safety is paramount, these cameras invade our privacy. It's like having a stranger look over your shoulder at all times, intruding into moments that should remain personal. Whatever happened to trusting skilled professionals who have been safely navigating these roads for years?

According to a study by the FMCSA, truck drivers already face an elevated level of stress due to their working conditions. Adding constant surveillance amplifies this burden unnecessarily. Moreover, multiple surveys show that the majority of drivers oppose these cameras. Respected driver advocacy groups like the OOIDA have reported spikes in stress and dissatisfaction among drivers subjected to constant monitoring.

There are better ways to enhance safety without sacrificing privacy. For example, companies can focus more on driver education, provide enhanced safety training programs, deploy outward-facing cameras that do not interfere with drivers' privacies, and promote a culture of trust and respect among the drivers.

We urge insurance companies and trucking corporations to reconsider and respect our privacy. No one should have to trade their personal space and peace for the occupation they love. Join us to stop mandatory inward cameras in commercial trucks and stand for privacy rights that every driver deserves.

Sign this petition if you believe in our right to privacy and want to ensure that commercial truck drivers can work without the unnecessary invasion of their personal space.
