Petition updateStop Luck Stone Quarry Project in Hanover, VAURGENT PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT: EMERGENCY VEHICLES BLOCKED ON VERDON ROAD

Friends and Neighbors in Hanover County:

On March 4th, I witnessed something that every resident of Beaverdam needs to hear. While driving on Verdon Road, I saw fire trucks and EMS vehicles with lights and sirens unable to pass a heavy dump truck heading toward the existing Martin Marietta quarry.

The dump truck was so large, and our Verdon road so narrow, that emergency responders were forced to wait until the truck turned into the quarry before they could proceed to the emergency on Level Drive. This is not a "private matter." This is a public safety failure.

If the Board approves the Luck Stone Quarry, we are effectively doubling this danger. When an ambulance is delayed because of quarry traffic, that is a failure of County planning.

WE NEED YOU TO CALL AND EMAIL TODAY

The County is trying to claim that issues like well water and blasting are "private disputes." We must tell them otherwise. Please contact the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission immediately.

Tell them:

Our roads are too narrow: Verdon Road and the surrounding infrastructure cannot safely handle existing industrial traffic, let alone a second quarry.
Safety first: Industrial dump trucks are already obstructing emergency responders. Adding more trucks puts every life in Beaverdam at risk.
Zoning exists for a reason: a 1,300-acre quarry is factually incompatible with A-1 agricultural zoning and our "Rural Character."

Subject: PUBLIC SAFETY OBJECTION: Luck Stone Quarry (CUP2025-00007)

Dear Supervisors and Commissioners,

I am writing to formally object to the Luck Stone Quarry application. Recent firsthand accounts show that existing industrial traffic on Verdon Road is already obstructing fire trucks and EMS vehicles.

Our roads are too narrow to accommodate both heavy industrial dump trucks and emergency responders simultaneously. By approving this permit, the County is knowingly increasing the risk of delayed emergency response times for the residents of Beaverdam.

I reject the characterization that water loss, dust, and blasting are "private matters." These are secondary effects that the Board is required to regulate. If the "secondary effects" include blocking ambulances and drying up wells, this project is incompatible with our community.

I request that this correspondence be included in the official public record.

Sincerely,

[Your Name] [Your Address]
