Yet another life has been lost due to live electrical wires in Pir Panjal, Jammu & Kashmir. On this occasion, a young student, full of potential and dreams, became the latest victim of this ongoing hazard. This tragedy is not just an unfortunate accident but part of a series of preventable incidents that continue to plague our region.

These are not isolated cases. Electrocution deaths resulting from messy, low-hanging, and poorly maintained overhead wires happen every few months in various parts of Jammu & Kashmir. Statistics indicate that several lives are lost annually due to this negligence, lives that could be saved with proper attention and action from the concerned authorities.

This issue is deeply personal to me, as I lost a dear friend under similar circumstances just last year. The pain of losing a loved one to such an avoidable hazard is profound and unacceptable. Had the local administration taken timely measures, such tragedies could have been averted, leaving many families intact and unscarred.

The state of electrometric infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir cries out for urgent reform. Most of the power lines, especially those running through Pir Panjal and other rural areas, are aging and suffer from poor maintenance. The wires often droop dangerously close to the ground due to a combination of age, inadequate infrastructure investment, and adverse weather conditions.

We call upon the Jammu & Kashmir Power Development Department and the state government to acknowledge this recurring problem and act decisively. We demand a comprehensive audit of all overhead wiring systems in the region, followed by immediate repair and modernization efforts. Furthermore, accountability measures must be put in place to ensure sustained maintenance and adherence to safety standards.

By securing our electrical infrastructure, we save lives and prevent further devastation.
