The CA Horse Racing Board reports the Musculoskeletal Training Death of 2-Year-Old Thoroughbred colt Single Vision on Thurs., Sept. 24 at Santa Anita Park, a trainee of, Doug O;Neill: https://www.chrb.ca.gov/racing_fatalities_Cat1.aspx

This is the Second Musculoskeletal Training Death of a Two-Year-Old Thoroughbred at Santa Anita Park in Five Days, following the September 19th Death of Scam Alert. 

A son of 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify, Single Vision had been raced once, on September 4, 2026, at Del Mar.

No legitimate sport would tolerate 31 deaths of its athletes in 35 weeks of competition in just one state, California, much less 15 at just one venue, Santa Anita Park — 12 Musculoskeletal/Six in Training, Six Racing, and Three Non-Musculoskeletal, One in Training, Two “Other" . https://www.chrb.ca.gov/veterinary.html

Single Vision’s Trainer, Doug O’Neill, has now had Nine racehorses die in his care since 2023 per the CHRB, including an unnamed 2-yr-old in 2023: https://www.chrb.ca.gov/veterinary.html.

In 2025, O'Neill failed to complete the mandatory veterinary exams after Ivan the Great resumed training following a layoff of more than 90 days and suffered a fatal musculoskeletal injury to his humerus during a workout at Santa Anita Park. O’Neill was suspended Seven days and fined $2,500 by the CHRB. In 2024, fellow Trainer Dan Blacker was very publicly disciplined by the CHRB for this failure after the two-year-old unraced filly Animae died training for him at Santa Anita Park.
