The Issue

My journey of alcohol recovery spans three years, a journey that has only been possible due to the lifesaving properties of kratom. Just like me, there are countless individuals who have been able to escape the dark clutches of fentanyl addiction thanks to kratom. Yet now, this crucial lifeline is under threat. House File 2133 (HF 2133) stands poised to criminalize kratom, a natural plant that has become a beacon of hope and recovery for so many.

House File 2133, driven by the influence of Big Pharma, seeks to outlaw kratom, a plant that God has created for our benefit. Kratom is not just a plant—it is a safe alternative that has helped many avoid the deadly spiral of fentanyl addiction. This proposed legislation not only threatens to disrupt the journey of recovery for many but puts lives at risk. Multiple studies on respected sources like the National Institutes of Health point to kratom's potential benefits, and banning it could lead to catastrophic setbacks in the fight against opioid overdose deaths.

Currently, the opioid crisis claims over 68,000 lives annually in the United States according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. The introduction of HF 2133 could contribute to this number climbing even higher, as individuals are forced back into using dangerous substances like fentanyl. This legislation doesn't just remove a substance from the shelves; it removes hope from the lives of those fighting for survival every single day.

The proposal to pass HF 2133 is not an isolated threat. It is indicative of a larger movement fueled by Big Pharma to rob individuals of natural alternatives that they do not have a financial stake in. They have already succeeded in removing hemp, another natural resource, and we cannot allow them to continue stripping us of safe, God-given solutions.

It is time to make our voices heard. We must prevent this legislation from passing and protect the right to choose alternative paths to healing and recovery. Join me in urging lawmakers to reject HF 2133. Let us stand united against the influence of Big Pharma and ensure that kratom remains accessible to those who desperately need it.

Please sign this petition and take a stand for the countless lives that depend on kratom for recovery and survival. We cannot go back to the days where fentanyl dominates the headlines due to its fatal grip. Sign today, and help keep hope alive.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to sign this petition and share your perspectives. I understand there are strong concerns about how Iowa should approach kratom, including concerns about misuse and safety. From my standpoint, I would prefer a more well-reasoned approach focused on targeted safeguards—for example, age restrictions and restricted access—rather than placing kratom into Schedule I. I’m not convinced that scheduling it will, by itself, solve the underlying problem of abuse. I appreciate constituents engaging on this issue, and I encourage you to continue sharing your input as the legislative process moves forward.
