Stop large scale solar developments on Missouri farm ground
Stop large scale solar developments on Missouri farm ground
The Issue
Farming has been my family’s legacy for generations, and every acre of our beloved Missouri land holds countless memories and untold potential for future harvests. This land is our life. Yet, large-scale solar developments threaten to strip us of this cherished heritage, erasing our hard-earned legacy in pursuit of industrial profit.
Missouri's farmland is among the most fertile in the United States, contributing significantly to our nation’s agricultural outputs and feeding millions across the globe. It is not just land; it is the backbone of our rural communities and economy. However, countless acres of productive farmland are at risk of being permanently converted into solar farms rather than being utilized for food production. By 2030, reports suggest that over 100,000 acres of prime agricultural land could be diverted for solar projects in Missouri alone, which could drastically impact local agriculture and the communities it supports.
While renewable energy is vital for our planet’s future, it must not come at the cost of our essential farmland. There is an urgency to find a balanced approach that promotes both renewable energy and sustainable agriculture. Areas with lesser agricultural value, rooftops, or already developed lands are viable alternatives for solar development. We need policies that prioritize these locations and protect our critical farming areas.
Join me in urging our state representatives and local leaders to prioritize the protection of our precious Missouri farmland. Let us advocate for responsible and strategic placement of solar developments that do not compromise our agricultural production capability. By signing this petition, you are standing with me to preserve our farmland for future generations and ensure that Missouri remains an agricultural stronghold.
Sign this petition today to protect our farmland and encourage the mindful development of renewable energy infrastructure without sacrificing our agricultural lands.
