Today Rachel Reeves and the Labour party announced in the spring statement their plans to cut benefits and their plans to remove the work capability assessment (The dwp assessment which deems if an individual is fit for work or not) and replace it with the the pip assessment. 

They have singled out anyone with mental health issues i.e. anxiety, depression ect as being a burden on society and they believe that work is a cure all believing that we'll just get over our issues and be productive members of society. As someone with mental health issues I find the insinuation that we're burdens on society insulting and that we can just get over our issues is so far from the truth. We don't choose a life on benefits, Our mental health has gotten so bad that we approach the government in need of financial help. Instead of compassion and understanding we are faced with suspicion, a complete lack of empathy and a total non want of understanding. 

Anyone who has been through the pip assessment know how notoriously difficult it is to be awarded a claim. By replacing the capability assessment with the pip one they are going to create an even worse mental health crisis bigger than what we are currently facing; Their plans also to tighten eligibility. for pip further denying those most in need the help they desperately require, They have further claimed that there are those who are fraudulently receiving pip, But fraudulent cases in pip are so low it is at a zero percent rating. 

What we don't need is not cuts and austerity, we do need compassion and  understanding, a more fair and understanding pip assessment. 

This is an all out assault on those of us with mental health issues and physical disabilities, this help the job centre is offering is a wolf in sheeps clothing intent on pushing and prodding no matter the damage they do. This is nothing more than a cost saving exercise, They don't care about our wellbeing or about the damage these reforms are going to inflict If we don't speak up now and try to prevent this then we will be living in a colder less compassionate world.
