Hi All,
As the reality of VAT takes hold for independent school parents across the country, legal experts are gearing up for one last chance to stop this tax. The High Court will hear the case against VAT–and the Government’s defence–between 1 and 3 April in London.
Action has been lodged by a parent group–Education Not Discrimination–as well as the Independent Schools Council and a third group representing faith schools. The Government are gearing up for a fight, spending tens of thousands of pounds a day to employ 4 senior barristers (King’s Council) to defend their tax. The fight is on.
If you oppose Labour’s VAT, we need your help now more than ever.
Here’s what you can do:
-
Donate to the Education Not Discrimination legal action
The Education Not Discrimination team are crowdsourcing funding to cover the costs of a strong legal team. They recently announced that a “a very generous parent has in principle offered to match every contribution, pound for pound, up to the amount needed to cover the costs for the case.” This means that every donation received goes twice as far to reach their goal. You can find out more here: https://educationnottaxation.org/legal/ -
Join us at the Court
Parents across the country are coming together at the Royal Courts of Justice to show their support for this case. There is limited seating within the Court, but many parents will show their support outside. Please join us! Meet us outside the Courts at 9.30am (or as soon as you can) and show your support. If your children’s term has already ended by then, feel free to bring them along. The nearest London Underground stations are Chancery Lane and Temple. -
SEND parents: Share your stories
We expect significant press interest as the Case approaches. If you are a SEND parent who may have to take their child out of their school (or already did) and you're willing to share your story, please let us know by completing this short form here: https://form.typeform.com/to/MhT3KKC2
Thank you all for your ongoing support in this fight!
Best regards,
Tony Perry
