Stop Kettering Energy Park Development in Northamptonshire

The Issue

The Kettering Energy Park proposed development shows the worst aspect of "green washing", where a large scale development of mega-warehouses - as high as 25 meters tall - in prime countryside is dressed up as a "response to the climate crisis"  (the developers words). It will have a direct impact upon the people and countryside of Northamptonshire; ruining productive farmland, threatening the local extinction of endangered species, increasing traffic to over congested towns and roads, and adding to noise, air and water pollution.

This is not in the public interest.

Concreting over the countryside and establishing "high energy demand" (the developers words) warehousing and factories on some of the best farming land is not "green".

Shamelessly attempting to exploit real concerns about the climate, energy and food security to build an industrial estate in a rural area is nothing less than a cynical exploitation of peoples genuine concerns and is the very opposite of sustainable development.

The developer attempts to link the windfarm, solar farm, and the business park together as some form of environmentally sound plan. However, on deeper reading it is clear that the site would not be an exporter of energy but rather a net importer - it would consume more than it uses. The developer does not even own the windfarm on the site. It would be the first "green energy" park that actually produces far less than what it needs. The solar farm was given planning consent in 2016, but not one single watt of energy has actually been produced.

The developers plans are for an enormous site of warehouses and factories and is completely out of scale for the area, and would be visible for miles and miles due to the high location of the proposed site.

The planned site is an area of open country side with rich biodiversity and animal habitation. It is one of the few large areas of Northamptonshire that is not crossed by roads or villages and as such it represents one of the largest areas of mature open countryside in Northamptonshire. The developer claims that the development will "support biodiversity" but replacing mature countryside with warehouses estates will have the very opposite affect.

The road connections are not suitable for this type and scale of development. The developer proposes to introduce a site employing up to 4,600 people onto a single entrance onto a single main road at a point that has many accidents, including a number of fatalities.

Vehicle parking would be required for over 5,000 vehicles - adding to air, land and water pollution and increased carbon emissions.

The developer proposes that the HGV vehicles would be "encouraged" to use the A14. However, any HGV heading south would of course turn the opposite way and use the A510 and A6 through Finedon and then onto the A45. There are no plans to improve the A510 or the A6 through Finedon and thus a town that already has high traffic movements and a bottleneck at the A6/A510 roundabout would be made many times worse.

This is pure speculative development of the worst kind that blights the UK.

Say NO to the destruction of the countryside. So NO to more traffic. Say NO to greed; and say YES to object.
