As of Monday, April 19 2021 developers Gary Pinkston and VP Colin of Meridian Pacific LTD are on island. They immediately put no trespassing signs around the property and has Geolabs Inc. drilling at 13 various sites on this 25 acre parcel. They have not even closed escrow on this property nor do they have basic grading permits. They are claiming that a new archaeological survey has been done. And no permit was needed for the drilling.
There is no way that a proper survey was done by Cultural Survey’s Hawaii based on the fact that this land was inaccessible for the past two months. After the last company cleared the lot it sat for over 6 weeks before Cultural Survey‘s Hawaii was on site to do a brief walk-through survey. Even then with much of the lot being overgrown a full new to team survey was requested only after the lot would be cleared by hand and no heavy machinery.
No cultural monitors are present for the drilling. No one present to check on threats to Koloa cave spiders or amphipods. SHPD is no where to be found!
If you’re in the Koloa area please can’t be present and take a stand! Show these developers we do not support and will benefit nothing from 300 condo units. Help protect the iwi kupuna in this ʻāina. We are losing culturally significant sites like this on a almost daily basis almost on Kauai!
how was a proper survey done? The grass was cut the day they started drilling!
