Stop Joe Biden and ConocoPhillips go through with the Willow project

The Issue

The Willow Project was announced back in 2017, throughout the years they have been close to getting permission to begin construction in Alaska but have struggled with the approval from the public. This project will be directed by one of the largest crude oil companies, ConocoPhillips, this company has the earning of $4.53 billion which is a 90% surge compared to this time last year, their plan is to drill down on Alaskas North Slope to find petroleum which can be refined into a fuel. They think that if they do this there will be more permanent jobs and more supplies of fuel. One of the most terrifying outcomes of this  project is that it has a risk of producing 287 million metric tons of toxic chemicals over a 30-year-long development which will end up on our lands and our seas, meaning it will kill animals and ultimately ourselves. The estimated amount of oil they could produce per day is 180,000 barrels of oil, 1.5% of the countries oil production, this is 80,000 more barrels of oil they thought they would produce 6 years ago.

2020 - Trump approved this controversial oil project, not long after this authorisation frontline leaders like; Sovereign Iñput for Living Arctic and environmentalists saw ConocoPhillips proposal was an environmental injustice and a climate disaster.

2021 - A new proposal was shown forward to the public that included 5 drill sites, more than 250 wells, a network of gravel roads and at least one airship.

2023 - BLMs public comment period has closed which means the final decision to go through with this project will be made any time during this march by federal government. But we still have just enough time to stop this, by signing as many petitions as we can and get as many people involved and aware as possible. We can stop a life changing development that could happen in Alaska.

Unfortunately, many people still don’t realise what awful and long lasting affects the Willow project will cause globally, we have not spread enough awareness to make an impact in people’s lives to make them stop and take time out of their days to find out what’s happening or to sign a petition. Less that 68% of the world’s population have never heard of the willow project and for the little amount of people that do know about it, don’t worry as much because they think that it won’t affect them and that if it happens it will just blow over and won’t cause any damage. Around 10% actually care and are actually taking action, I am one of those people I want to make change even if it’s not a drastic change anything is better than not bothering. People need to wake up and realise that we are already in a global climate crisis and this project will create bigger and more catastrophic effects that will last years.

If Biden chooses to approve ConocoPhillips, the sea levels will continue to rise rapidly causing more flooding, native animals will die due to the drastic changes it will cause to their living conditions, the native village of Nuiqsut will be most affected because it would extremely close to the development, Indigenas (native) tribes and animals will be forced to relocate, the noise, traffic, and pollution that project will bring will disrupt ecosystems that Indigenous Alaskans have relied on for millennia and it would reduce water quality and instream health leaching chemicals.

We will never be able to go back to a “normal” climate, there’s a high chance we won’t make it to 2050 , once it’s done people will give up. We are killing the only thing that gives us life, we have no right to call this ours, we are already feeding earth with toxic chemicals,  if this happens it could potentially become fatal. There are already so many signatures and petitions but it won’t be enough against a multi million oil company. The more petitions and signatures the higher chance of stopping it.

Join me and thousands of others to help stop Joe Biden approve ConocoPhillips Willow Project.
