The Issue

I have always loved animals. They have been my companions, my comfort, and my joy. During high school, I witnessed a heart-wrenching incident that will stay with me forever: a dog was run over and simply left to die by the side of the road. It was then I realized the value of every animal life and how they are often treated as objects rather than sentient beings capable of feeling pain and emotions.

It is not just dogs or pets that suffer; countless animals in slaughterhouses endure unimaginable pain and suffering before their lives are brutally ended. These practices are not only cruel but unnecessary. Animals feel fear, pain, and stress just as we do. Modern science, including studies by Sanctuary Publishers and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), supports the evidence that animals are sentient beings deserving of humane treatment.

There are compassionate and humane alternatives to the way we currently handle animals in the food industry. Implementing techniques such as humane slaughter methods, increasing veterinarian oversight, and strengthening welfare standards within slaughterhouses can significantly improve the conditions in which animals live and die.

We are urging lawmakers and industry leaders to take immediate and decisive action to overhaul the outdated practices in slaughterhouses. This includes mandatory installation of CCTV cameras, regular welfare audits by independent bodies, and a quota for humane treatment training for all slaughterhouse personnel. By adopting these measures, we can ensure a transition to more ethical and compassionate treatment of animals.

People that contribute to ending these animals lives in such cruel ways should not be able to go home and sleep at night knowing without reflecting on the harm they’ve inflicted and how it could be prevented.

Please join me in calling for a change. Sign this petition and be a voice for animals who cannot speak for themselves. Together, we can make a difference and pave the way for a more humane world.
