Stop ICE’s Warrantless Arrests in Chicago: Free Abel Orozco Now
The Issue
Abel Orozco was doing what he’d done for decades—bringing breakfast home to his family. Instead, ICE agents surrounded him outside his house in Lyons, Illinois, handcuffed him without a warrant, and hauled him away.
He’s still in detention. No charges. No criminal record. No due process.
His son recorded the arrest. It went viral—and now Abel’s case is at the center of a federal lawsuit that exposes how ICE agents detained at least 25 people in the Chicago area without proper warrants, violating constitutional rights and ICE’s own internal rules.
This isn’t just about one man. It’s about families across Chicago being torn apart in broad daylight.
ICE agents knocked on doors, failed to identify themselves, waved blank or backdated paperwork, and detained people at gunpoint—including one U.S. citizen. They ignored basic legal standards meant to protect our communities.
We’re calling on ICE and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to immediately release Abel Orozco and halt warrantless arrests in the Chicago area. We also urge the court to extend legal protections that expired in May—before more families are torn apart.
Abel is a business owner, husband, and father. His wife is battling cancer. His son Eduardo is now caring for the family alone while fighting to get his father back.
If we don’t speak up now, this will keep happening in our neighborhoods. Sign to demand justice for Abel and every family ICE has unlawfully targeted.
